New features added, version 8.5.1
Program MUPM, Printer Definition Maintenance, is used to define the printers and report output for your system. The values entered in the Printer field comprise the list of values that can be selected from both the Printer field on the menu screen and in the Ovrd Printer field on the Job Definitions tab of MUJM, Menu and Job Parameter Maintenance program. A printer assigned to a certain report by selecting the printer name in the Override Printer field in program MUJM, Menu and Job Parameter Maintenance, will always take precedence over the printer that is displayed in the Printer field on the menu. As part of the 85R1 upgrade, printer names of SCREEN and FILE will be populated in NDS.
Enter the printer name in the Printer field.
Select from Cache, Printer or File in the DesType field.
SCREEN = CACHE
Any print output = PRINTER
Any post to file or transmit = FILE
3. Enter the printer description in the DesName field. If the DesName is left blank when the DesType is Printer, the report will be run in CACHE mode since DesName is required when the DesType is Printer.
For Destype of Printer for Windows implementations, the description field must match the printer name in Windows.
For Destype of Printer for Unix implementations, the printer field must match the printer name in Unix.
For DesType of Cache, the DesName field should be left blank. If the DesName is populated, it will be ignored since it does not apply.
For DesType of FILE, you will not be able to populate the DesName field. The report will post to the directory entered in the REP_TEMP parameter on MURM, Initialization Parameter Maintenance.
The following rules apply when the DesType is set to FILE:
If at least one of the parameters passed in is not null or the job arguments passed in from MUJM are not null then the report will be run to file. The assumption is all required parameters for the report have been passed to it.
If you get an error message of Cannot run report, then most likely the report has a parameter with a missing or invalid value. Check UTKM, Maintain Drill Down Keys for the fields that are required to run the report.
If there are no parameters defined in UTKM then the report will be run to file.
If parameters are defined in UTKM, either the parameters must be passed in via a drill down or job arguments must be posted in MUJM. Otherwise, the parameter form will display and the report will be run to CACHE, even if the parameter form is flagged not to display in MUJM.
4. The Mode field should be left as Default unless you want to force the report to be run in CHARACTER or BITMAP mode.
5. Select the output format of the report in the DesFormat field. If this field is left blank, the format will default to the format defined in the Web Reports Style field on MUSM, System Parameter Maintenance.
6. In the File Ext. field, select the file extension that you want your report to default to.
7. A printer can be assigned to a printer group from program MUPG, Printer Group Definitions with the [Printer Groups] button.
8. A report class from program MURC, Report Class Definitions can be assigned to a printer with the [Report Classes] button.
