Customers can be set up in order that they can only buy certain items or that they are excluded from buying certain items. This is accomplished by setting up item type codes and assigning the items and customers to the item type code. Customers can be assigned to a code with the intention that they can only buy the items assigned to the code, or with the intention that they can not buy the items assigned to the code.
The customer can be set up so that the only a warning is displayed, or so that the customer can not purchase the item. This is accomplished with the Warning Only flag in program CMMM, Customer Master Maintenance, for each customer.
If the flag is set to on for the customer, when a sales order line is entered for an item that the customer is not allowed to purchase, the program will display a warning, but will allow the entry.
If the flag is set to off for the customer, when a sales order line is entered for an item that the customer is not allowed to purchase, the program will not allow the entry and displays a warning.
The following set up must be completed
Enter Item Type Codes. Assign customers and items to the item type codes. If the customer can only order items assigned to the item type code, set the Include flag to on for the customer. If the customer can only order items not assigned to the item type code, set the Include flag to off for the customer.
Assign customers to the item type codes on the Items Tab. If the customer can only order items assigned to the item type code, set the Include flag to on for the customer. If the customer can only order items not assigned to the item type code, set the Include flag to off for the customer. Set the Warning Only flag to the desired setting, as described above.
Assign items to item type codes. Enter the type code in the Item Code field. Items can only be assigned to one item type code.
Enter sales orders for customers. For customers with the Include flag set to on, only items assigned to the customer's item type code can be ordered. For customers with the Include flag set to off, only items that are not assigned to the customer's item type code can be orders.
For customers with the Warning Only flag set to on, a warning will be displayed, but the item can still be entered on the sales order. For customers with the Warning Only flag set to off, a warning will be displayed, and the item cannot be entered on the sales order.
