Link Styles

Styles define the various elements of the way an object will be presented to the user, such as font, size, color, and border. However hyperlinks (or anchors) provide the user with a means of navigating to new areas of the application. Hyperlinks can be displayed in one of four manners depending on its state at a given moment in time. These states are: Normal, Active, Hover, and Visited.

Any link that the user has already visited will be in the Visited state, while links that the user has just clicked on will be in the Active state. If the user has the mouse over a link but has not yet clicked it, the link will be in the Hover state. Any link that does not match one of these states will be in the Normal state.

When setting up link style objects, you are assigning styles to each of these states.  Link styles are applied to links on entities.  Links are fields that have the Type property set to HRef Link.

Creating/Modifying Link Styles

  1. In the Explorer Tree, select the Link Style Information object.

  2. There are options creating a link style at this point.

  1. The link style will be generated and displayed in green on the Explorer Tree. The Property Sheet will be displayed for the new link style. Link style properties will either be displayed in Alphabetical or Logically, depending on the setting of the [Sort Alphabetically/Logically] button.  The following instructions are assuming that the properties are sorted logically.

  2. In the Name property, enter a user-defined name for the link style.

  3. In the Description property, enter a user-defined description for the link style.

  4. In the Normal Style property, select the style to be used to define the presentation of hyperlink objects in the Normal state.  The Normal state is any link that is not the Visited, Active, or Hover state.  This is also the default style to use for the Visited, Active, and/or Hover states, if they are not assigned a style.

  5. In the Visited Style property, select the style to be used to define the presentation of hyperlink objects in the Visited state.  Any link that the user has already visited will be in the Visited state.  When set to (normal style), the style defined in the Normal Style property will be used for this state.

  6. In the Hover Style property, select the style to be used to define the presentation of hyperlink objects in the Hover state.  If the user has the mouse over a link but has not yet clicked it, the link will be in the Hover state.  When set to (normal style), the style defined in the Normal Style property will be used for this state.

  7. In the Active Style property, select the style to be used to define the presentation of hyperlink objects in the Active state.  Links that the user has just clicked on are in the Active state.  When set to (normal style), the style defined in the Normal Style property will be used for this state.

  8. In the Created on property, the date and time on which the link style was created is displayed and cannot be changed.

  9. In the Modified on property, the date and time on which the link style was last changed is displayed and cannot be changed.

  10. When all changes have been made, press the [Save] button on the main toolbar.
